CoDeSys Automation Alliance

The CoDeSys Automation Alliance - What`s going to change?

During the 18th Marketing Workshop of the CoDeSys Automation Alliance which took place in Kempten on May 6th, we thoroughly analyzed and discussed the development of the Alliance during the past ten years with the participating partners.

With Version 3 CoDeSys has developed from a monolithic system to an adjustable automation platform. It is an undisputable matter of fact that the CAA has significantly raised the awareness of end users for CoDeSys and has also led to an increase of the programmable products available in the CAA pool. Nonetheless, the focal issue was never the Alliance itself but the programmability with the IEC 61131-3 development system CoDeSys. What is more, especially end users were often confused about the fact that some manufacturers and their devices were listed on the CAA list whilst other manufacturers were not.

These findings have encouraged us to optimize our marketing activities as follows:
  • The brand “CoDeSys Automation Alliance” will no longer be used. All devices programmable with CoDeSys will in future be marketed under the CoDeSys logo. Both the CAA logo and the brand name CoDeSys Automation Alliance will be discontinued after a certain transitional period.
  • The main pillars of the CoDeSys Automation Alliance partners contract have either already been fully put into effect (the technical basis as well as the business model) or do not require a contractual regulation (joint marketing activities).
  • The CAA partner contracts will, thus, become invalid. The bilateral business contacts between the device manufacturers and 3S-Smart Software Solutions will, of course, not be affected.
  • The joint marketing activities (fairs, events etc.) will be continued as before.
  • A device directory listing all devices programmable with CoDeSys or CoDeSys derivatives will be a key element. Devices listed must be marketable within six months. A division into more granular product categories in the online version of the product directory is to make it easier for end users to find the right product. Direct links to the product pages of the manufacturers will offer detailed information and increase the traffic on the individual manufacturer sites.
  • All manufacturers of devices programmable with CoDeSys / CoDeSys derivatives may take advantage of the following services:

    • device directory (online/printed)
    • joint fair booths
    • table top shows of the CoDeSys Users‘ Conferences
    • listing in presentations, ads etc.
    • planning the joint marketing strategy (CoDeSys Marketing Workshop)
    • participation in the technical standardization process (CoDeSys Technical Workgroup)

We thank all members of the CoDeSys Automation Alliance for their trust and the good cooperation during the past ten years.

We are convinced that a clear focus on the brand CoDeSys will further strengthen the market position of the devices programmable with CoDeSys. Let us continue to set standards together in the automation world with our joint solution CoDeSys!
